Friday Five

Feels good to still have one of my old habits… Time for the Friday Five! I have been participating for years (when I remember to do it). Lets get to it.

1. Pick one label that you think does describe you (race, religion, hobby, etc.).

Opinionated – Yea, I have a bad habit of having an opinion of everything. Luckily I know when and when not to speak my opinion.

2. Pick one label that is often put on you, that you really think is inaccurate.

Unorganized – Sometimes I can come off as unorganized, however I always have a backup plan, or a reason for doing everything. Come on, im a Virgo. We are just that anal about things!

3. Pick one label you wish could be put on you.

Positive – I like to look at things logically. Theres always a good side, and a bad side… a positive and a negative. When I do identify both sides, I tend to go with the self protecting negative view. I feel if you are prepared for the negative, then if the positive does happen, its a more welcomed outcome than the negative one happening. So I spend more of my time and effort concentrating on the negative sometimes. Identifying your problem is the first step to recovery isnt it?

4. What is one kind of label that you think is universally wrong to use (race, gender, height)?

That is a hard one to answer, because we all use generalities as human beings in order to tackle problems. The question is a bit vague though because labeling someone by race or gender could be considered racist and sexist, but it would depend on why you were actually labeling them to begin with. Lets look at advertising. The point of advertising is to make money. It exists for no other reason. If I had a popular hip hop artist, or country singer, and I only knew the race of the body I was advertising to, would I use race as a label? To make money, yes. Would I consider that wrong? Of course not. However, if I was a CEO of a company, and I was looking at the sex of my employees for advancement, that would be wrong. So it really depends on what your use of that label is to whether its wrong or not.

5. Labels, used intelligently, can be a convenient rhetorical shorthand for identifying how a given person will fit into (or react to) a given situation. Labels, used incorrectly, can be an excuse for dismissing the differences still inherent in the people to whom the label is applied. Discuss.

I think I may have answered that in the last question, lol. Yep see. I can be very opinionated.

If you have never heard of the Friday Five, its a blog that posts questions every Friday for you to answer. They have been around for YEARS. So head over to Friday Five, get the questions, and post them to your blog! If you don’t have a blog, feel free to use my comments for your answers!
