86-year old nun writes cell phone novel

Jakucho Setouchi is an 86-year old nun from the Buddhist temple in Iwate prefecture (northern Japan). She is a well known writer, and has been credited with being one the the first people to translate The Tale of Genji, the world’s first novel. However, she has kept a secret from her fans till now. Setouchi-san has finally let the world know that she was behind a long running cell phone novel (keitai shousetsu) that has become very popular.

The story is a traditional love story called Ashita No Niji, Tomorrow’s Rainbow. She choose the pen name, Purple, as a synonym for the inner most arc of the rainbow, the closest to the heart.
