I miss the old internet.

News from Japan

My 3 year sabbatical from blogging has ended… To tell the truth, I’m not sure why I quit blogging. I really did enjoy it when I had the time. My blog was around before the current surge in social networks, web 2.0, even Facebook (hard to imagine I know). With my departure from the blogging scene, I also neglected my graphics and web design skills. So much has changed since 2003. Everyone has a blog of some sort which was unheard of back then. We were the vocal minority.

I was looking back through my old links to friends who owned blogs, and only 1 or 2 were still up. We had sites like Survivorcam and InternetGossip to make celebrities out of people with webcams. I honestly had more closer friends online than I did in real life. I think it was after realizing that, it made me less interested in everything that I was doing on the internet. The time between my posts slowly started getting longer. And I only kept in contact with a few select people, some of which I still talk to today.

My old site was more about my webcam. Just the other day, I was searching “xorsyst” to see what came up, and the usual people taking my name for their usernames came up, but I even found someone who had stolen my picture and made a profile on Yahoo! using it. You may think it would bother me, but it really doesn’t. I used to get that plus more when I had my site. People leaving racist remarks was the norm. But with all of the bad that was around then, the friends I made then was worth it.

So that brings me to my new site. The same name that I have been using for the past 7+ years (I’m the original xorsyst!) The graphic/web design bug has hit me again, and with Web 2.0, everything seems so new to me. It’s fascinating. I have yet to decide whether I am going to put my cam back up. The only time my webcam gets moved is when I need to dust it. However I still do take lots of pictures, and I think that’s going to be what I display the most.

I am also really hooked on learning Japanese right now. Im also addicted to Japanese TV shows. If you are too, you may have noticed Densha Otoko up on the top. Densha Otoko was a top-rated TV show in 2005. You will see a lot of posts from me regarding Japan due to my interests.

This site is going to be my playground graphically as well as the technology behind the designs. I have also left Pensacola, FL and moved to Clearwater, FL (9 hours south). There isn’t much opportunity in Pensacola for younger people, so I decided to move further south in search of a web design job. I’m confident that I will find something when I start perusing jobs. I also have a few businesses I have always wanted to try starting up. So 2008 is going to be a busy year, and a lot of activity here.

Bookmark me and hang on for the ride!
