But I would have to get my foot out of my mouth cause how would I categorize quality of life. They may be in poorer living conditions but they could be happier than I am because of their belief system. So alas I don't know. This is what blogs are for.

"I will admit I will fish (and eat said fish) with no qualms, but something about killing animals just for the sake of fashion has always bothered me a bit. If it’s not tasty, why bother?"

Same here. I'm not a tree-hugger, but I still love animals and don't like them to suffer unnecessarily. I don't even like putting my dog in her cage (which is probably proportionally bigger for her than the necklace for the fish) for a few hours. Must not be very good for the fish, stuck in something that's not even big enough to swim a circle in.

I saw this via Stumble Upon, and had to comment as someone who loves aquariums.

You never want to release a fish kept in captivity into a native body of water. Even if it's a native fish, there's a possibility of spreading a disease the native population hasn't faced, but the captive fish encountered. It's hard to say which is worse...a single fish dies a an awful death due to stress and lack of oxygen, or a similar fish is released and may lead to the deaths of many.

To truly decide you'd have to look at the aquaculture of the fish and assess the disease risks. I think it comes down to both products being pretty crappy. I will admit I will fish (and eat said fish) with no qualms, but something about killing animals just for the sake of fashion has always bothered me a bit. If it's not tasty, why bother?

This is at least better than the keychains, which don't have food or oxygen and the fish die in an hour. As long as the kid doesn't forget, this fish will most likely live and go live a happy little life in a big body of water..probably soon to be killed by a bigger fish but that's the way of life.

Or if you get a fish bowl I suppose you could keep it even longer.
